Doctor Who - FIELDS OF GOLD - Sting

Here’s my long overdue contribution to the massive and still growing collection of Rose Tributes. OK, so it’s morose and angsty, but hey – a girl’s gotta get it out of her system somehow… This is only my second ever vid, so please be gentle!

What an excellent song! Sting is a great artist.

Wow. As a fan of the series, I remember how sad it was when Rose and the Doctor were seperated. This vid captured that sense of loss very well. Truly well done.

The song is most bueatiful, but I do prefer Fields of Green! We have plenty of green here in Lotusland (Vancouver),Canada…where (rain)clouds are always around, and that is for the better part of the year too. The summer is short(2 months), which usually means we don’t see fields of gold anywhere, be it a grassy park or the pasture out in the valley. Everything stays green around these neck of the woods and that’s the way I like it!!! Thx4 the bueatiful song nevertheless.

Oh, marvelously done!!!

Really great job!

Really great job!

I love how you (simpleutopia) address the copy right issue. I have found more music and shows to watch because of YouTube. It’s free advertising for Doctor Who and Sting; I love both. These kind of short music videos on here have replaced the old MTV when they used to play videos to promote their music. This is far better. And this video is fantastic!

Absolutely gorgeous!!

This is such a good video. Well done :)

Oh yeah, there is such a thing as “fair use” which allows folks to use a specified amount of an original work within another piece, if (as you seem to have done the work is properly attributed–So my comment was a general one, but I just wanted to explicate some to the issues that are currently within the discourse of media/performance studies and practices. Once again I did enjoy this peace..Long Live the Doctor!!

Hi, in answer to your response about the worrying aspects of folk’s utilization of others artistic productions– Of course in regard to sampling there are copyright issues which are arcane as I am not a scholar of copyright,I really cannot speak upon. I was pointing to wider concerns–including of misappropriation of intellectual and cultural materials–for example the Russian Ice Dancers use of “aboriginal” cultural artifacts in the construction of their competition piece-a problematic use.

Hi there,
Thanks for the kind words… I think. When you say “use of other people’s artistic production” – do you mean that people shouldn’t make fanvids as they’re a breach of copyright? When, in fact, my making this video is really not ONLY an ad for Dr Who, but also for Sting’s Fields of Gold, both of which are not only acknowledged in the vid, but there’s also a link on the vid placed by Youtube, for people to buy the song if they want to.

Where’s the worrisome aspect, i ask myself?

I really appreciated this work . The folks born after 1976 have a different way of thinking about the use of other people’s artistic production, which I do sometimes worry about. However my love for the Doctor and appreciation of this character–in this instance outweigh those concerns.

Lovely…well done
